Yes, again an update for the antispam plugin for WordPress. The third one in the last weeks. But believe me, I publish updates not to annoy you, but to help you. Meanwhile, update cycles are as often as with the AntiVirus software on your desktops.

Recently, the volume of spam has increased enormously. Especially the techniques of spammers are becoming more and more sophisticated. I analyse the spam, react to user feedback, develop and test new defence mechanisms. It’s slowly becoming a full-time job, which robs me of a lot of free time 😉 Some people say I should change the plugin to paid. I won’t do that. It’s still working.

At the end of the year I release an annual edition of my plugins: It’s a final version that I take with me into the coming year. It is also a sign that the (further) development of the plugin for the current year has been finished. It will continue in the new year.

Plugins are like children: they crave love, time and care. Now it’s the turn of Antispam Bee to be polished again. And indeed, a lot has happened. Optically as well as technically (although not without technical ;).

I have used the time of the last nights to perfect my plugins. Today in the morning hours the primary plugins from Sergej Müller have received an update in form of an Xmas Edition.

Hardly anything has changed in the code, rather the plugin pages in the official WordPress directory have been cleaned up, descriptions revised, header images unified and added. So a new paint job, unified image etc.

So that’s it for this year with the (further) development. Next year will be continued.

The version brings the following changes:

• The options page has been visually adapted to WordPress 3.2.
• The dashboard widget with the spam history has been changed to an interactive statistic analog to Statify. Meaning: Each point of the statistics curve is “mouse-sensitive” and presents the number of intercepted spam comments in addition to the date. Simple and space-saving.

The plugin can either be downloaded directly from the WordPress plugin directory or updated via Auto Update.

For as long as Akismet is part of the company behind WordPress and is forced to be installed with every system upgrade, the worldwide popularity of Automattic’s antispam solution will not change. Due to unstable data protection, Akismet had to give up its shares (mainly in German-speaking countries) to the WordPress plugin Antispam Bee during the year. On more and more blogs, the smart, buzzing extension keeps watch and separates comments without storing the commentator’s data centrally abroad. Version 1.7 brings further protection tools for professional bloggers.
