Anniversary edition: Antispam Bee 2.5.4
This post originally appeared in Sergej Müller’s Google+ profile (in German) and is no longer accessible there. It’s now kept here by the Pluginkollektiv.
In January 2009 I released the first version of the antispam plugin for WordPress. So it is 4 years ago. Four years of research and development. From insignificant small to world famous. Copied several times, never reached. With a total of 35 update cycles.
The current version not only brings a new Antispam Bee mascot. Also a function extension for even better spam detection is on board.
If the Antispam Bee option “Include local spam database” is active, the plugin had searched IP addresses of incoming comments in the local blog spam database (i.e. if IP was already detected and marked in the spam).
From now on, Antispam Bee matches the website URL and email address of the comment sender with spam stored in the database in addition to the IP. In the daily spam stream it happens quite often that the same spammy websites (from different IPs) are advertised and thus repeatedly given as website URL – a pattern that can be referred to.
Once marked as spam, comments with identical website URLs, IP or email addresses would be immediately marked as spam because the pattern matches.
The update to the current version can be downloaded either directly from the admin area via Auto-Update or from the official WordPress plugin directory.
I would also be very happy about every plugin review. Thanks!
